That’s right! No more getting caught on camera while you unexpectedly blow past a speed camera. Using a USB connection, the system updates the Cobra speed camera database with manually verified speed camera locations so that your Radar Detector will always know what is approaching ahead in the road.
Another nice feature of the XRS-R9 is it is split into two units, a base and a receiver unit. The base is small and weighs less than 10oz and can be mounted virtually anywhere. The receiver is connected to the base via a 2.4Ghz wireless connection and can be mounted anywhere in the vehicle where you can see it’s easy-to-read color OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. The receiver unit is rechargeable and you get about 4 days of use on a single charge. Set up of the unit was extremely easy, taking about five minutes to configure. We were impressed with its ease of use and numerous features. As we drove around city streets, we looked for red light and speed cameras, and the system warned us about more than half of the cameras we found. For the others (which are popping up constantly around us), we were are able to add the new cameras to the database with a push of a button, which will notify Cobra to manually verify these locations for future updates. |

DEC 2008 UPDATE - Ron Rosberg's current project home, the Technology Lake House, is currently under construction on the shores of Clearlake in Northern California. The new high-tech dock is complete, and the roofline is beginning to take shape. So far, more than a dozen technology vendors have stepped up to sponsor this project, which has been simmering in Ron's head since he attended the first CES show in New York in 1967. The 7,500 square foot project (plus two existing rustic cabin guest houses) is being built on a six-acre Honeymoon Cove resort with 500 feet of beach directly across from Konocti Harbor Resort. This summer retreat will host two technology gatherings annually, inviting Western states home builders, contractors, and technology consultants for a live open house. There is room to park up to twelve boats in the main dock and the guest dock, so plan on coming up for some lake fun after the project is complete.
